(In response to Clem, Charlie, an Macey wanting to take the chicken's eggs to Clem's room to hatch):
Me: you're not going to be able to hatch those eggs into chicks.
Them: Why not?
Me: What does it take to make a baby?
Macey: Hard work.
Me: Well, yes. And what else?
Clem: A mom.
Me: And?
Charlie: A dad!
Me: Yes. You need a girl for the egg and a boy to fertilize it. And do we have a boy chicken?
Them: No...
Me: So unless we get a rooster, those eggs will always be just eggs. They'll never turn into chickens.
Clem: I could be the dad!
Me: Well, you don't have any fertilizer yet. You're not old enough. And, only a chicken can fertilize a chicken egg. A human can't.
Macey: That makes sense.
